Uganda as any other developing country in the world has a very high rate of maternal mortality. There is lack of enough trained health care staff to cover the whole country. Olilim and the neighboring villages do not have any government clinic the nearest is either Matany hospital or Katakwi trading centre both are miles away. Most women as a result turn to the traditional birth attendants to help in delivering their children and many mothers with complications end up dying during child birth.
Olaforent is trying to help alleviate these problems by setting a well equiped clinic with sterile medical supplies; a childbirth delivery bed; and training for midwives on handling delivery complications and providing prenatal and postnatal care, newborn care, and family planning services.
Potential Long Term Impact
Making sure mothers have midwifes during delivery who have the supplies and skills needed to deliver babies safely stops childbirthfrom being a death sentence for so many women. When a mother survives childbirth, outcomes for her family improves.
